Chapter 3: Due Process¶
Update: Federal Lawsuit Filed
Kevin Bass has filed suit in federal court. For the latest, see Court Filings and The Paper Trail.
Status: Unresolved
Timeframe: October 2025 – Present Key Question: Why won't the university grant a new hearing?
In the American legal tradition, "due process" is a fundamental right. It means that before the government (or a public university) can take something away from you—like your education or your reputation—you must have a fair chance to tell your side of the story.
After discovering the discrepancies in his file (Chapter 1) and being denied a copy of the evidence (Chapter 2), Kevin Bass formally requested a new hearing.
The Request¶
On October 19, 2025, Kevin Bass sent a formal request to university officials. He asked for: 1. A new hearing to challenge the accuracy of his student record. 2. A neutral decision-maker (someone not involved in the original dismissal). 3. The right to present evidence that contradicts the official findings.
The Response: Silence¶
The university was given a deadline to respond. That deadline passed.
Kevin Bass sent follow-up emails. He asked for confirmation of receipt. He asked for a scheduling contact. He asked for accommodations.
As of December 2025, the university has not granted a hearing. The request remains in administrative limbo.
"A hearing is not a favor. It is the basic mechanism of justice."
The Core Dispute¶
What Everyone Agrees Happened¶
- Kevin Bass submitted a hearing request on October 19, 2025.
- He sent multiple follow-up messages to verify the request was received.
- The university has not scheduled a hearing.
What Is Disputed¶
- Obligation: Kevin Bass contends the university is legally required to grant this hearing to correct the record.
- Procedure: The university's silence suggests they may believe the original proceeding was sufficient, despite the alleged errors.
